Message to Reset customers

Dear Reset customers:

I am very proud of our association with Reset which gave our foundation its initial funding.  Without the help of Reset and its customers we would never have been able to achieve what we have today. The Annika Linden Foundation currently funds 14 health and education based projects in Bali, Thailand and India. In 2010 we’ve spent approximately a million dollars and improved the lives of more than 4,000 individuals.

Half of our funding comes from Reset and its charity initiative, so your spreadsheet entry today is vital to us.  You can read about all of our initiatives on our website but we’d like to highlight 2 of our wonderful projects in Bali.

Yakkum Prosthetic workshop
Yakkum is a rehabilitation center for the physically disabled.  It's primary focus is the production of prosthetic limbs. This year they manufactured and fitted 300 limbs and provided therapy for 500 clients.  The employees themselves are all physically disabled.  Yakkum has improved the lives of over a thousand individuals on the island.  Because of the expanding client base we’re funding the purchase of new equipment this year including a state-of-the-art oven for the manufacture of high-quality prostheses.

YPK
Another rehabilitation center we recently began funding is YPK, or Yayasan Peduli Kemanusian.  YPK supports the entire physically impaired community, with a particular focus on those who come from poor backgrounds and have no access to formal health services.  By encouraging and motivating its patients to independently undertake their daily activities, YPK aim to decrease their dependency on others, and increase their overall quality of life.  The major programs at YPK BALI are physical rehabilitation for those suffering from CP (Cerebral Palsy) and other nervous disorders. They also have a mobile program where they go to select villages in an ALF-funded van to conduct physical therapy on those with physical disabilities.

In 2010 we also started 3 new initiatives:

Bali Hears
Earlier this year we made the decision to create our own comprehensive hearing program in Bali to be headed up by Dr. Bulantrisna Djelantik, a respected audiologist, now retired, who is a consultant to the World Health Organization.  The program’s objectives will be to improve testing, education and availability of hearing aids to the deaf throughout the island of Bali.

Annika Linden Foundation Medical and Education Center
In 2011 the Annika Linden Foundation will start to build its first-ever medical facility on the Island of Bali, 4 of our projects will be based there;  YPK, Yakkum, Bali Hears and Kembali. The idea behind the center is to allow health-related projects to share a state-of-the-art facility and gain synergies by sharing administrative resources. We’ve committed to lease a beautiful plot of land in Tohpati and are currently developing its design. The cost of the land and the building of the center will be met by Mark Weingard, the original founder of Reset.

India
In 2010 we started funding 2 projects in Mumbai; Sankalp Rehabilitation Trust and Salaam Baalak Trust. Sankalp provides care and support to street-based drug users and seeks to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS. ALF is funding the incoming class of participants in a project that provides sustainable livelihood training to recovering drug users.
Salaam Baalak helps care for and educate thousands of street children in a safe and nurturing environment. Today SBT provides a holistic safety net of services covering the entire area of child development.  ALF funded three additional staff to help meet the needs of the children.

We intend to add 4 more projects in 2011 and take our spend in India up to USD 250,000 per annum.  We’re currently visiting and researching the different projects.

We look forward to your support today and we hope with the money that is raised that we can help over 5000 individuals in 2011.  Your efforts today will help us change their lives.
