ALF IN BALI
YKIP

Yayasan KIDS (Kuta International Disaster Scholarship) was originally a non profit charity set up by volunteers who are also employees of PT. Courts Indonesia, Tbk., an international retail company that sells electronics and furniture. YKIP does international fundraising for this project and pays for a full-time administrative field officer and operational costs. In June 2003, YKIP and Yayasan KIDS joined together to form an alliance called "YKIP-YKIDS Children's Education Trust Fund" a joint fund-raising entity to handle the donations and the payments to the school for these children.  In July 2010, PT Courts Indonesia dissolved and YKIP took over the entire project.

This project provides educational funding and support for the many children of people who were killed, injured or who are still missing after the first Baki bombing in October 2002. Yayasan KIDS supplies the volunteers who organize events for the children and their families and YKIP attends to the daily administration of this program. Given the very young age of some of the children concerned, this project has a life span of at least 12 years, another sign of the long-term commitment of ALF.  Funds are either delivered directly to the schools concerned or through Educational Savings Certificates. All school fees, extra lessons, extracurricular activities, school uniforms, shoes, books and stationary are paid for by this fund.

At the end of 2010-2011 school year, there were 48 from 29 families who received assistance through this program. Initially, we funded educational needs for children of injured parents. The agreement was that funding would be available for this group until they regained employment. These 45 injured parents have returned to work (most of them at the renovated Paddy's Pub) and therefor their children have been released from the program.
